Planet Positive are launching Climate Councils on 1st July 2007
as part of the emerging Global Change College.
The councils will initially be run in London.
The philosophy of Climate Councils is :-
1. You are a citizen in a democracy.
2. You are responsible for what your Local Council does about Climate Change.
3. You can meet other citizens and share your research and concerns.
4. You can decide what needs to be done in your Local Authority.
5. You can take whatever measures are right to get the changes made.
First of all, you will need to form a group of citizens that want to be part of the
local Climate Council.
The Climate Council meetings will be based around a theme or subject.
Do not expect the same people to come to each meeting of the Climate Council.
Do expect people to commmit to getting action taken in your Local Authority.
You can draw a group of people together for a Climate Council in several ways.
One of the ways to start a Climate Council is to call together a Planet Positive
workshop in your area.
Let us know if you want us to come and make this happen.
How to run a Climate Council meeting :-
¶ When you have 5 or more people on your list who
want to meet, agree a subject of Global Change to discuss (for example :
Climate Change, Acid Ocean, Rising Sea Levels and so on).
¶ Do your homework.
¶ Print out or write out or photocopy your research from
the Internet, newspapers, magazines or advertising.
¶ Meet in one of the new smoke-free Public Houses of England.
¶ Discuss the issues and share your research.
¶ Decide who you are going to target for what change in
response to the problems of Global Change and Climate Change.
After you have done your research and shared your homework with the rest of the
Climate Council, you will be the local experts on Global Change.
With your knowledge and by working together, you will be responsible for making
change happen in your local area.
If you want to meet on a regular basis, you can enroll your Climate Council in the
Global Change College.
The College will promote the best research and understanding to a wider audience.
